A second story above the shelter
After receiving a one-time capital grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, we spent countless hours carefully planning for our shelter's expansion. We temporarily relocated the shelter program to 2545 Portland Avenue in December 2024, and returned to an expanded space on our campus.
The expansion included building a second story above the existing space. Guests helped shape the design: we gathered their input throughout the planning and design phases.

The renovation and construction of the emergency shelter was funded by a one-time capital grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. The matching gift campaign was supported by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, which contributed $19,250 and matched a further $19,250 in community donations, met in full by 49 households.
The expansion was a community effort.
Donors, volunteers, guests and partners all shaped what the shelter is today.
