An Update on Our Medical Respite Program

An Update on Our Medical Respite Program

For the past four years, Our Saviour’s Community Services and Fairview have partnered to provide medical respite services for Fairview patients experiencing homelessness who needed temporary shelter and clinical support following hospitalization.

This partnership is winding down, and will conclude when the current contract expires in September. The program was established in 2022, when few other options were available for patients who needed a safe place to recover after leaving the hospital. Since that time, use of the medical respite program has declined, and additional state-regulated recuperative care programs have become available in the community.

Through the partnership, Fairview provided patient referrals, nursing services, and provider oversight. Our Saviour’s Community Services provided shelter, meals, case management and connections to county and community resources.

Fairview will continue helping eligible patients access appropriate recuperative care, shelter, and other community services. The Our Saviour’s Housing Emergency Shelter will continue serving individuals referred through Hennepin County’s Adult Shelter Connect. Our Saviour’s Community Services is actively exploring new programming and funding models, with goals of maintaining all 38 beds at the shelter and 24/7 operations.

We are grateful for the work our organizations have done together and for the support this partnership provided to community members during the past four years.
